Welcome to the website for Florida Friends of Midwives!
Midwives have a long and valued history in Florida. Originally founded in 1989, Florida Friends of Midwives has been resurrected with a new vision to respond to the emerging challenges faced by Florida's midwives. Florida Friends of Midwives (FFOM) is a non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to promoting the Midwives Model of Care and supporting the practice of midwifery in Florida.
Florida Friends of Midwives was formed to support midwives who offer safe, cost-effective, evidence based care to Florida's Families. Our members are consumers and birth advocates with a common goal: to preserve the legal protection afforded to Florida's midwives and birth centers. We are committed to organizing the community to support midwives and to assure the continued availability of midwifery care in the State of Florida.
2nd Annual Fundraiser
In support of the many midwives who provide care to Florida's mothers, we are launching our 2nd Annual Fundraising Campaign on May 5, 2009:
"A Midwife for Every Mother"
Throughout most of the world, and most of history, women have labored and birthed with midwives. The International Day of the Midwife is marked by midwives each year on May 5. It is an occasion to celebrate and promote the profession of midwifery and recognize the accomplishments and dedication of our midwives. In honor of International Day of the Midwife, Florida Friends of Midwives pays tribute to the work of midwives in Florida, all over the country and around the world.
